Missionaries – Manila, Philippines
Ortiz Family
Parents: Paul and Ruth. Kids: Kai (10), Ryan (8), and Alana (6).
This has been an exciting year for our family! In September,
we were appointed by Action International Ministries as missionaries to the Philippines. We will be going as “project workers,” and have been asked to oversee the building of the Shalom Christian Birthing Clinic.
Shalom was started by ACTION missionary and midwife, Mavis Orton. She had observed the high mortality rate of women giving birth in the slums, and developed a vision to provide a place where good maternity care could be available. She uses this as a platform to bring the hope of the gospel to these women and their families. The women are followed up with by local churches.
Many women have come to know Christ through their experience at Shalom.
The clinic that Mavis started in her home, has now grown
to the delivery of approximately 120-150 babies each month! Funds are being raised to build a new clinic. The land for the new building has been purchased, and blueprints have been made. We have been called to come and work with a Filipino contractor to oversee the building project. Paul has been working in construction for the last 14 years, and is thankful for the opportunity to serve in this way.
Prayer Requests:
1. Please pray for us as we transition back to life in America. We desire to be faithful servants of Christ, serving the Lord with gladness in whatever situation He has us in.
2. Pray for continued funding to come in for the Shalom Christian Birthing Clinic project. We are so grateful for the many ways you supported us during the last few years. Our hearts will forever be changed by the things we have seen and been a part of through Action International Ministries.
